On the right bank of the broad Tagus (Tejo) river estuary, the capital of Portugal graciously reclines over rolling hills. Lisboa was almost destroyed in 1755 by a terrible earthquake. It was rebuilt according to the plans outlined by the Marquis of Pombal. The unique characteristics of Sintra have led UNESCO to classify it as a world heritage site. It was even necessary to create a special category for the purpose – cultural landscapes. The medieval town of Óbidos is one of the most picturesque and well preserved in Portugal. Along the castle within the walls, you will find a maze of cobblestone streets, Manueline porticoes, colorful window boxes and small squares.
DAY BY DAY BREAKDOWN
The Route
Day 1
Arrival at Lisboa International Airport. Travel to Óbidos (about 1 hour). Check-in at the gorgeous Marriott Praia D’El Rey Golf & Beach Resort. Today you will have free time to settle down in the evening.
Day 2
Golf at Praia D’El Rey Golf Course or enjoy a Massage at the Wellness Center. Guided sightseeing tour of the medieval town of Óbidos. Stroll along the cobblestone streets and alleys, whitewashed churches and the imponent castle. Dinner at Pousada do Castelo, a traditional Portuguese Cuisine experience.
Day 3
Golf at West Cliffs Golf Club or enjoy the Atlantic beaches and protected wildlife. In the afternoon, a guided sightseeing tour of Peniche and its traditional Fishing Port. Stroll along the Fortress (Fortaleza), discovering the sealine and the golden Atlantic beaches. Comeback to the resort and enjoy a marvelous dinner at the gourmet restaurant.
Day 4
After a great breakfast, meet your guide for a sightseeing tour of whimsical Sintra, including the magical Palácio da Pena, the luxurious Monserrate Palace and the fairytale-like Historic Centre. Be delighted with the local sweet delicacies – Travesseiros and Queijadas. Check-in at Penha Longa Resort and enjoy a massage at the exclusive Spa.
Day 5
Golf at Penha Longa Atlantic Course or enroll one of the many workshops at the resort. Then, a guided tour of unique Quinta da Regaleira, a fairy-tale palace-like property. Discover the coastline village of Cascais, its cosmopolitan charm and small-town feeling. Experience a feast at the Fortress, Fortaleza do Guincho, Michelin-star awarded.
Day 6
Fall in love with Lisboa old-world charm and be surprised by Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, Belém Tower, Padrão dos Descobrimentos and Belém riverfront, landmarks of the Discoveries period. Have a traditional Portuguese lunch at famous restaurant Solar dos Presuntos. Visit the up-hill St. George Castle, “Sé” Cathedral and Pombalin Downtown.
Day 7
Golf at Oitavos Dunes or enjoy a shopping spree in Lisboa finest stores. Recover from this week at the resort’s swimming pools and wellness center. Farewell dinner at Lab, Michelin-star restaurant, by Chef Sergi Arola.
Day 8
It’s time to go home and feel the exclusive Portuguese Word – Saudade. Check-out and transfer to Faro International Airport.
